Mixed Metals...Mixed Opinions
Mixed metals…mixed opinions. Can we just take a moment to really delve into this concept? It may not be new or groundbreaking- but with most of my clients, it is surprisingly controversial! Now don’t get me wrong, the idea of throwing a dresser with decorative brass knobs into a bedroom that has a polished nickel table lamp in it used to give me heart palpitations. BUT- I am now a convert. There is definitely an art to mixing metal finishes in a room (that’s why you hire a designer!), but when done right, mixed metal finishes in a room can add a layer of interest and personality. Let’s take a look at some examples below…
All hail Jean-Louis Deniot! This kitchen flaunts sleek polished stainless cabinetry with an antique gold pendant fixture. Talk about STATEMENT. Image Via Elle Decor.
This Celerie Kimble for Arteriors wall sconce= perfection. Matte bronze and polished brass makes for a striking statement piece. I imagine a pair of these flanking a beautiful white stacked stone fireplace! Image via Arteriorshome.com
This happy bedroom by Bria Hammel Interiors is brought to you by a bright white upholstered bed, blush accent pillows, natural light, and last but not least- MIXED METALS! How powerful are the warm gold lamps, iron bed frame, and cheery soft gold starburst mirror? They make the room, I'm tellin' ya! Image Via Bria Hammel Interiors.
The moral of today's story is this: there are NO rules in design. That's what makes it fun. Mix your drinks, mix your company, and mix your metals. But call your designer first. :)
